Thanksgiving '08

Ok so I’m only about a month behind in blogging about the events we have had going on here at the URM this time of year.  But you know what they say, “Better late than never”, whoever “they” are.

We started of the Thanksgiving season with our annual event called Feeding the Multitudes.  Each year we prepare boxed Thanksgiving meals that will feed a family of four.  Each box is filled with a whole hen, stuffing, yams, 2 veggies, and cake mix and icing.

In order to receive a box of food, you must have a letter from a DHS case manager stating that you are receive help there and qualify for assistance or you must have a referral form filled out from a local pastor.  If you have one of those  two things then you may receive a food box.  The goal is to steward our giving appropriately and not be giving food to people who aren’t “in need”.  This allows us to spread more blessings among those who ARE in need.

We always have volunteers come the weekend before Thanksgiving and work the “assembly line” that creates the food boxes.  It’s a crazy time as you slide empty boxes down the tables while people are throwing the goods in them!!!  This year we prepared and passed out over 600 food boxes!!!!!!

Here are some pictures of some of the men in our program helping me set everything up at about 1:00 in the MORNING!!!!
